Eva & Franco Mattes

Fresh breeze awakened my head meeting this artwork.

They are Eva & Franco Mattes – Italian born artists, apparently having nomadic work style.

As mentioned at the interview, they are not targeting ART GALLERY GOERS but ideally next door person.

Yes their work instantly penetrated straight into me via the modern materials – internet chat/ second life /interactive on-line game – sometimes on the very edgy border line.

The first one grabbed me was below  ” Reenactment of Marina Abramovic and Ulay’s Imponderabilia” 2007

They recreated the original video – people at the venue have to go through between the 2 naked bodies – in second life

and

created the same event there and invited people in real. How witty.

The avatars always behave in second life manner like they can go through each other’s body. There was a huge Hello Kitty went through their bodies.

I will re-visit second life to see if my avatar’s still there – left her floating in the sky some years ago and will check out how much it’s developed technically since.

This is “No fun” 2010.

On-line chat was set to get connected to random people with their own web cam capturing their reaction to the screen image – the artist fictionally hung dead with a chair floating, sometime changes the body angle.

Some viewers got shocked.

Some had no reaction.

Some laughed out loud.

One wanked.

This is “Freedom” .

On-line interactive shooting game.

The artist kept telling every single fighter he encounters

“Please don’t shoot. I’m artist. I’m making a performance video”

but gets shot every single time even before he says all the sentences.

I wonder the title “freedom” being sarcastic revealing human truth.

I’ve got so much to say from today’s brief encounter with their work that will stop for now.

I have heard about / seen some new movement about modern young monks in Japan

ex.

super fashion concious one who collects huge amount of Comme des Garçons even though he doesn’t have time to wear,

another super fashion concious one who really cares his own monk robes,

the ones as a sutra group who collaborated with other musicians to create edgy music,

the one who opened monks bar to listen / talk to people (seems quite some exist),

Today’s one is a monk duo who mixed dance music & sutra as looking like daft pank dressed as monks but their actual music is cool.

Apparently they are doing this to spread sutra for people to get familiarised with.

GO Japanese monks GO!

The scent of Departure

“The scent of Departure” – this work of art & humour & wonder curated by Perfumer Gérald Ghislain and designer Magali Sénéquier is the highlight of today.

I know that scent of places’s been done before like Comme des Garçons trying to be a bit exclusive, however,

I think this whole idea + design + package + name + price is so spot on for everybody – young to old / male to female / rich to common – to get the message.

This encounter took me trips to the airports / cities I’ve been to.

I certainly remember the scent (?) of Seoul – garlic (very strong) / Tokyo – humid soya sauce & rice / Athens – sun on marble / Rome – earth / Paris – damp / Berlin – dusty /Amsterdam – clean modern /London – cleaning products….

Made me realised that the scents are associated with my affection to those cities and big part of my memory.

Big thumbs up to them.

Saya Irie 入江早耶

My mind was blown away when I saw her quiet art work.

I kept this butterfly inside for long wondering how to make readers understand what she does.

Her speciality is;

“immaculately erasing existing familiar image with rubber/eraser

and

immaculately reconstructing the same image in 3D format using the actual erased dust as material”

Therefore she keep all the erased dust carefully separating in colours.

On the note below Mr Noguchi & Mt.Fuji disappeared on the 2D paper but landed as 3D figures in correct colours/gradations.

Here a cat holding her meal came 3D again leaving the paper label white patch on the bottle.

Hans-Peter Feldmann

My head was knocked here & there and awakened at Hans-Peter Feldmann’s exhibition and wanted to make a note not to forget.

This black & white photo – one figure cut out which has a long shadow.

The fact that girl’s touching the cut out figure with affection emphasises the girl not there.

No need to comment.

I spotted these shoes are “GUESS” branded through pins, which made me giggle.

I wonder if he choose these pair for this reason…
